Stress Free Super Bowl Party by Central Carolina Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Electric

Hosting a Stress Free Super Bowl Partysb party

With the Super Bowl this weekend, many of us are gearing up to have a couple of friends over to watch the big game. So how can you be a great host, without stressing out? Here are a couple of tips to help you do just that:

  • Ask everyone to bring an appetizer to share – it is best to let your guests know in advance about how many people will attend so that they can plan accordingly as well as any food allergies.
  • Set up a self-serve drink station – grab a cooler or large tub and ice down beer, bottled water and sodas so that guests can serve themselves.
  • Limit alcoholic drink choices – this will not only simplify the time required to make drinks, but ensures that you don’t have to have a ton of mixers and garnishes. Choose one mixed drink that can be made either alcoholic or virgin. Provide ingredients and a recipe and allow guests to make their own.
  • Set up a self-serve food station – allow guests to serve themselves using disposable cutlery, plates and cups.
  • Place trashcans throughout the area guests will occupy – that way they can help with clean up.
  • When guests arrive write their name on their dish – use masking tape to writ their name on it in case it gets left behind.
  • If children will attend consider hiring a babysitter to help entertain them.

Finally, enjoy yourself. The Super Bowl is not meant to be a fussy event. Everyone just wants to enjoy watching the game and cheering on their favorite team.

Furnace Care by Central Carolina Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric

The cold weather that marks the transition from fall to winter is descending upon us. There is no better time than right now to check on your furnace to make sure it is in tip-top shape for the coming cold weather. By checking it now you might save yourself the hassle of an emergency call later in the season. Regardless of whether you have an electric or gas furnace, you will want to check, and replace if necessary, air filters. This can boost your efficiency. Filters should be changed monthly, or as soon as they become blocked with dust and particles.

For gas furnaces, check the pilot light to ensure it is lit. Also check any fittings to make sure there are no leaks. While gas has an added odor to make it more detectable, you should always check by spraying a weak soap solution on fittings and looking for bubbles. Check the batteries in your carbon monoxide detector too.

If you have an electric furnace, check motors, pulleys and belts for signs of wear. Replace any parts now rather than waiting for them to wear out – and potentially leaving you and your family in the cold. Oil moving parts per manufacturer’s directions. If in doubt about how to service your furnace in preparation for winter, remember that you can call the professionals at Central Carolina Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric for all your HVAC needs.

Is Your Home Ready for Vacation by Central Carolina Air Conditioning Greensboro NC

IMG_4325

While you might be ready for vacation, will your home be ready when you leave?  Most people don’t put enough thought into securing their home while they’re away!

Tip #1

Only turn your air conditioning up by 3-4 degrees at most! Most people think they should crank it up 10 degrees since no one will be home to enjoy it but this actually causes more stress on the unit when you return!

Letting the AC unit run consistently over a period of time on one temperature is actually more efficient in the long run and better on the environment and your wallet than turning it up and down drastically.

Stay tuned as we talk more about getting your home ready for vacation this month! Also be sure to check back for details about our big contest coming up!

Easily change out your air filters by Central Carolina Air Conditioning

index

Many people not only forget to change out their air filters regularly but don’t know where they are located and how easy they are to change out.

Changing out your air filter regularly is not only easy, it’s smart. Here at Central Carolina Air Conditioning change them out for you when we do our maintenance services. However, every month, you should also be changing them out for better air quality for your health, be more energy efficient and save money on needless repairs to your overused system!

Air filters come in a variety of sizes as height and length will depend on the manufacturer. However, instead of playing the guessing game at the store, you can pull one out easily as most have the dimensions written on the side for you. However, if yours doesn’t, simply just measure each side twice for accuracy and take the measurements with you when purchasing new ones. Many will measure out with fractional dimensions (i.e. 12 3/4″) and you just round up to the next whole number. So 8 1/2″ x 14 3/4 by 1″ would round up to 9 x 15 x 1.

Regarding location of your air filter, sometimes they are located close to your HVAC controls or close to the air conditioner’s air handler. The air handler is a large box that contains your fan and fan motor that move air throughout your home. If your home has more than one HVAC system then you will have two or more filters. Be sure to check your returns to see if there is an air filter located there as well.
